Chapel Hill Toffee: A Family Recipe That Became a Carolina Favorite
Before Chapel Hill Toffee became a North Carolina favorite, it was a family recipe made in Karen Graves’s home kitchen.
For years, Karen perfected the toffee and shared batch after batch with friends and family. In 2006, she turned the recipe people kept asking for into a business.
What began at home in Chapel Hill became a distinctly Carolina treat: buttery toffee layered with chocolate and pecans, made for breaking apart, passing around, and trying not to finish all at once.
A family recipe worth sharing
Some products begin with a business plan. Chapel Hill Toffee began with something people already loved.
Karen kept making the family recipe because people kept wanting more of it. That demand became the beginning of Chapel Hill Toffee, but the product never lost the quality that made it special in the first place.
It still feels like something made to be given.
A box works just as well as a hostess gift, client thank-you, holiday treat, or something tucked into a North Carolina gift basket. It also works perfectly well kept at home and shared only if absolutely necessary.
Griff’s Coffee Toffee
Karen’s husband, Griff, was the toffee’s first and biggest fan.
After his passing, the Graves family created Griff’s Coffee Toffee in his honor. The coffee-infused version carries his name and adds another layer to a product already rooted in family.
It is a meaningful part of the Chapel Hill Toffee story: a favorite recipe becoming a business, and then becoming a way to remember someone who believed in it from the beginning.
Chapel Hill Toffee at A Bit of Carolina
Chapel Hill Toffee was one of the original North Carolina foods stocked by A Bit of Carolina when we opened.
It has been a top seller every year since.
That matters to us because we do not have to guess whether people connect with it. We have watched customers choose it for gifts, return for another box, and recommend it to someone else.
Chapel Hill Toffee is more than a product made in North Carolina. It is one of the flavors our customers have helped make part of the A Bit of Carolina story, too.
Choose a box for yourself, add it to a North Carolina gift bundle, or send it to someone who deserves a little Carolina sweetness.
